For those who are missing home.

There are some days when I miss home. I can’t always tell what makes those feelings stir inside me, but they are pushy. They don’t leave room for positive emotions. Excitement, happiness, and anticipation flee at the sight of homesickness. Melancholy, sadness, and even regret feel right at home when homesickness appears. They even linger, refusing to leave after I have evicted homesickness. I don’t know the exact company homesickness is looking for. However, feelings of being disrespected, purposelessness, and “you’re not needed here” are never too far off.

Home, or at least the concept of home, holds a special place in our hearts. It’s much more than the location. It contains the feelings of belonging, being loved, being heard, and being understood. At least that is what it should include. It’s so much more than a specific address or location. I suppose that is why when I feel homesick, I don’t even know where I’m homesick for.

I’ve had the opportunity to live up and down the East Coast. As a result, home has become a blend of them all. Coffee with friends in Atlanta, finding who I was in Pittsburgh, fireflies in the countryside of New York, and waterfalls in Georgia. Each form is a piece of the nostalgia of home. Each special moment, fragmenting, coming together, and forming something new.

If you’re longing for home, make a friend, make a memory, make the idea of home even more than it was before.
